What changed on 1 October
Royal Decree 1188/2025 removes the exception that allowed certain boats to be rented without a licence. It is a nationwide change across Spain.
From 1 October 2026, anyone who wants to take the helm of a rental boat needs a licence.

Boats that until now could be rented without a licence will require one. This is the most direct case.
