What changes on 1 October
Royal Decree 1188/2025 removes the exception that allowed certain boats to be rented without a licence. It is a nationwide change across Spain.
Until 30 September 2026 nothing changes. From 1 October, anyone wanting to take the helm of a rental boat needs their licence.

Anyone who rented without a licence
Boats that until now could be rented without a licence will require one. This is the most direct case.

Residents who rent several times a year and want to stop depending on a skipper.

People who have long wanted their licence and now have a date that makes the decision for them.
